911 Communications
Tresca Brown graduated from Charlton County High School in 1996. She is a devoted mother of 2, and Yaya of 2.   She began Dispatching full-time in 2002 with Camden County 911, and during that time she also worked part time with Brantley County 911, Wiregrass 911 (Long/ McIntosh Counties) and a brief stint with Navy Region Southeast Dispatch. Ms. Brown then moved on to Glynn Brunswick 911 for the past 5 years - which helped her realize that she'd spent a lot of time helping other communities and now she wanted to help her own hometown.

Ms. Brown has managed the upgrade to the Charlton County E911 Center during 2022-23 bringing Charlton County up to date with the latest and best dispatch facility. Ms. Brown is a huge advocate for continuing education, and training for our 911 Communications Officers. Throughout her time as a dispatcher, she has participated in every training opportunity that she could, including Emergency Medical Dispatch, CPR, APCO International Fire Dispatch, Crisis Intervention for Telecommunicators, Communications Officer Training Certification, National Centers for Missing and Exploited Children, National Emergency Number Association, and the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch.

In her own words, "It is our goal that the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center be a place that is staffed with well trained, professional Communications Officers that will be prepared for any situation, and that are capable of being able to walk with our callers through every emergency they may have to face. We are the calm steady voice in the darkest times, and the first, First Responders!

Support Organizations

Success depends on all of us. The organizations below are partners of the Charlton County Sheriff's Office.

Each Year we offer the
Jr. Deputy Class

The week-long Junior Sheriff’s Academy is held annually in the month of June and is full of fun and education about public safety for our local youth. There are many volunteers from the GBI, Georgia State Patrol, Juvenile Services, State Probation and local law enforcement and fire department employees that are there participating as role models for our youth. Demonstrations include SWAT team “rescues”, the gathering of crime-scene evidence with the GBI, fire departments fire-fighting equipment, ambulances, patrol cars, police motorcycles and horse patrol officers. The learning portions of the Academy include CPR training, cell phone safety, BB gun target shooting and how to march in line. The final day of the week is graduation day! All participants are given a Junior Sheriff’s Academy certificate and “badge” to take home, along with their lessons and memories! HOW DO KIDS SIGN UP?

Community Services

In an effort to better serve our citizens, we have started several new programs for you to consider.

R.U.O.K
The Charlton County 911 Center is pleased to offer the "Are You OK" Program to the citizens of Charlton County. This free service is for the homebound, the unassisted, the elderly, or any other citizen who would benefit from a daily check. Under the program, dispatchers call citizens at a daily designated time and speak to the person being called to make sure they are ok. If no answer is received after the first call a second call is made shortly thereafter. If the second call elicits no response appropriate measures are taken to make contact with the person and determine their status. The flexible program is available countywide. For anyone interested in registering for the "Are You OK?" program, a application is available here. When we recieve your application we will contact you and verify your information. Sign up here.
Vacation Watch
Home Vacation Watch Most criminals who burglarize homes are looking for an easy hit; a house that they can break into quickly, take something of value, and leave without being detected. There’s no fail-proof way to keep out a burglar, however, you can help prevent home burglaries while on vacation by taking some deterrence measures. Don't come home to a Crime Scene. Take advantage of our Home Vacation Watch Program by signing up before you leave. Sign up here.
Home Security
1. Keep all your doors and windows locked, even when you’re at home. Also, be sure each exterior door has a deadbolt lock. 2. Install a home security system. Post signs in your yard alerting would-be thieves that your home is protected by a security system. 3. Get to know your neighbors. When you know the people who live nearby, it will be easier to pick out strangers in your area. 4. Don’t hide a key to your home outside. Instead, give a key to a trusted friend. 5. Install motion sensor lighting around your home’s exterior (especially near doorways). 6. Keep lights or a radio on when you’re not home. 7. Secure your vehicle. Vehicle break-ins can occur even in the safest neighborhoods, and an unlocked car is an easy target. 8. If you have a home safe, bolt it to the floor. 9. Place a hold on your mail while you’re away. You can make the request online (opens in a new tab) from 1 to 30 days in advance. 10. Home inventory to catalog your most important items (including serial numbers for electronics) so that it’s easier to identify what’s missing and its value.
Logan's Law
The law, went into effect July 1,2021 creates a voluntary database of special needs residents that can be accessed by first responders when responding to calls. Specifically; Provide standards for operation and maintenance of an information system by a local government within an emergency 9-1-1 system which will support the collection, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of information voluntarily submitted to indicate that an individual has a physical, mental, or neurological condition which impedes his or her ability to communicate with any law enforcement officer or emergency responder."
